This was not at all the image I had planned to draw for Michael Jackson's birthday this year, but when I discovered this contest, it seemed like as good an excuse as any to draw my greatest source of inspiration. And that is how I remember Michael Jackson. Yes, he was a great singer, song writer, and dancer. Yes, he was one of the most caring people on the planet. Yes, he has affected my life in all of these ways. But more than anything, he is my inspiration to keep drawing, experimenting, and doing my ultimate best with every project. "No matter how many times you do it, you do it again, until it's right." "Creating a legacy so you can look back and look at what you have done."
Some of you know that this past month I pretty much lost any interest in drawing anything. Sure, I still had creative ideas, but the thought of actually sitting down and beginning it was enough to make me pick up a book and hide from my vision. How more fitting could it be that this image finally broke through my artist block and enticed me to draw again.
Thank you Michael, and Happy Birthday!!!
And thanks, again, to my brother for modeling MJ's forearm.
