On the other hand, I was surprised how much I enjoyed the various hero characters. Banner/Hulk in particular was amusing. I especially liked the almost anime-feeling visual gag of him just punching Thor in the side of the head and knocking him off screen after taking down some of the 'mobs' together.

^This.
As a character, he was interesting at best in Thor, slightly better developed than most Bond villains, and I have no opinion on Avengers as I haven't seen it yet. I feel from Thor, though, that they tried to make him super "relate-able" with the mommy/daddy issues. Because, ya know...everyone has at one point felt like the son of a frost giant in a hall full of Valhallan gods.

It isn't that girls like bad boys; it's fangirls seem to like bad boys who could also double as a character in a yaoi fluff fanfic.

But yes. It's a Draco in Leather Pants thing. ESPECIALLY if you've seen Thor. There he's got all this woobie "woe is me" going on because of the mommy daddy issues (which don't hold up too well once you start actually thinking about them, but at face value are effective. Especially because the actor really knocked it out of the park.)
