Loki Shmoki

Tue Jun 26, 2012, 9:55 PM
Avengers, the movie, was awesome!  I really really liked it.  It was worth every penny I spent on it and more.  But what I don't get is this new obsession with Loki.  Really?  That little self-inflated man with a pretty stick?  THAT's who everyone likes???  I don't know about you, but I'm totally with Hulk on this one.  He's a puny god!

He seems even less interesting a character in this movie than he did in Thor. There, he was a character with a motivation, even if a silly one. Here, he's just a 'bad guy'. He's out to do bad things because someone tells him to. Yeah, I care for that not one bit.

On the other hand, I was surprised how much I enjoyed the various hero characters. Banner/Hulk in particular was amusing. I especially liked the almost anime-feeling visual gag of him just punching Thor in the side of the head and knocking him off screen after taking down some of the 'mobs' together.

"It doesn't help that said fangirls seem to believe that their self-insert OC is the only person who can 'redeem' him (sexually, of course)."

^This.

As a character, he was interesting at best in Thor, slightly better developed than most Bond villains, and I have no opinion on Avengers as I haven't seen it yet. I feel from Thor, though, that they tried to make him super "relate-able" with the mommy/daddy issues. Because, ya know...everyone has at one point felt like the son of a frost giant in a hall full of Valhallan gods.

I think it's a "Draco in Leather Pants"-type scenario. The fangirls are taking a creepy, mean-spirited and vaguely effeminate bad guy and trying to turn him into a bishie. It doesn't help that said fangirls seem to believe that their self-insert OC is the only person who can 'redeem' him (sexually, of course).

It isn't that girls like bad boys; it's fangirls seem to like bad boys who could also double as a character in a yaoi fluff fanfic.

Hmmm.... That says a lot about Edward Cullen.... Yes. I think you've hit the nail on the head, sir.

Well, I think the Edward Cullen thing also has a thing or two to do with his "I am utterly lacking in a personality or past beyond my love for YOU girl-reading-this-book-conveniently-named-bella." So like Bella herself they can just pour their own "perfect man" into him.

But yes. It's a Draco in Leather Pants thing. ESPECIALLY if you've seen Thor. There he's got all this woobie "woe is me" going on because of the mommy daddy issues (which don't hold up too well once you start actually thinking about them, but at face value are effective. Especially because the actor really knocked it out of the park.)

Yes, the actor did a STELLAR job with that role. Too bad it was such a lame role, but he really saved it and kept it from being as bad as it could've been!
